BROOME ONCOLOGY - SOCK OUT CANCER 5K RAISED $20,000

(Binghamton, NY) On Thursday, January 28, 2021, Broome Oncology announced it raised $20,000 for Sock Out Cancer ® through the 2nd Annual Broome Oncology – Sock Out Cancer 5K.

During a live Facebook event, doctors from the practice presented the donation check to Security Mutual Life Chairman and CEO Bruce W. Boyea.  The Security Mutual Life Foundation established Sock Out Cancer in 2017 to help cancer patients in need of financial assistance to pay for non-medical expenses such as food, transportation and housing.

The Broome Oncology 5K  is open to runners and walkers.  Due to the pandemic, the 2020 event was held virtually on October 4 and extended through October 18 for registered participants to complete their own 5K course. 

"This is absolutely so incredible to raise $20,000 from a 5K Run and Walk,” said Boyea.

“Thank you for this most generous  check, but more importantly thank you for what you do each and every day to help people.”

Boyea added that with this donation, Sock Out Cancer ® has so far raised $580,000 to provide financial assistance to cancer patients in Binghamton since it was established.

“I would like to thank all of the walkers and runners and walkers in this community. They made this possible. They’ve proven that nothing, really nothing can stop them,” said Dr. Madhuri Yalamanchili with Broome Oncology. “We would like to thank all our sponsors, and a special heartfelt thanks to John Carrigg, (President & CEO, UHS) and everyone at UHS for their generous flagship sponsorship and contribution that made this possible,” she said.

The funds raised by Broome Oncology for Sock Out Cancer® will stay in the local community to benefit cancer patients at UHS and Lourdes hospitals

Sock Out Cancer, LLC, is wholly owned by the Security Mutual Life Foundation, which is a New York 501(c)(3) public charity. Deductible charitable donations may be made directly to Sock Out Cancer, LLC, or to the Security Mutual Life Foundation.
